Internal Medicine service of the Botkin Hospital includes clinics of internal medicine and pulmonology, neurology, cardiology, nephrology and psychiatry. Nephrology departments provide specialized care to patients with various kidney diseases using substitution therapy, cardiology departments perform percutaneous diagnostics and treatment on the coronary vessels.
In the Department Of Palliative Care #1 in the treatment of patients, the following therapeutic measures and manipulations are carried out: palliative care in the hospital, the appointment of narcotic and psychotropic drugs to patients in need of anesthesia, patient care, including prevention and treatment of bedsores, care of drains and stomas, feeding, including probe nutrition, parenteral nutrition, organization of consultations of patients with a doctor – specialist in the profile of the underlying disease and doctors of other specialties, conducting detoxification therapy, normalization of blood parameters, including indications for replacement hemotransfusion, selection of therapy schemes for the continuation of treatment at home, medical interventions, the implementation of which is impossible in an outpatient setting (puncture, drainage installation).
On the basis of the 2nd therapeutic Department of the clinical hospital. S. P. Botkin performed laboratory tests (General and biochemical blood tests, studies on markers of hepatitis, HIV infection, immunological parameters, studies of blood hormones, lipid spectrum). Employees of the Department regularly undergo refresher courses, training programs, observations, conduct active research activities, which allows to provide timely and highly qualified psychological assistance to patients of the state Botkin Hospital. The work of the Department is carried out in two main areas: psychodiagnosis and psychocorrection.

Annually the Department provides up to 100 nephrobiopsy. In many cases, ultrasound of the pelvic organs, prostate, thyroid gland, Echo, endoscopic examination, medical diagnosis of pleural function, hormonal profile examination is also carried out. In the differential diagnosis of diseases of the blood system, a sternal puncture, a trepanobiopsy of the bone marrow, a puncture of the lymph nodes are performed.
